A MiG-21 fighter jet of the Indian Air Force crashed in Badmer, Rajasthan on Thursday night. Both IAF pilots were killed in the crash. The MiG-21 has been in the news yet again. In the last few years, many MiG-21s have been lost. At present, the IAF has around six squadrons of the MiG-21 Bison, one squadron with around 18 aircraft. After the Balakot air strike, Pakistan Air Force (PAF) fighter jets violated its airspace, it was the MiG-21 Bison.
What is the Specialty of Mig-21
The MiG-21 Bison fighter aircraft is capable of attacking very lethal aircraft with short range and medium range aircraft missiles. The speed of this fighter aircraft is 2229 kilometers per hour, which was the fastest flying fighter aircraft at that time. Its range was around 644 km, although India’s upgraded version of Bison can fly around 1000 km. It is fitted with a turbojet engine, which gives the aircraft supersonic speed.
